“All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel” (which means “God with us”).” Matthew 1:22-23 (NIV)
“Immanuel” God with us. The message. The heart of Christmas: God becoming flesh and blood, making His dwelling among us. What a glorious message! What a needed message! What a message of revelation and love! The second person of the Trinity became one of us, to show us what God was all about. He came, in a manger, as a humble baby, of common people, to show us the importance of servanthood. He will come again someday as King. Help us to be servants this Christmas so that we might bring glorification to King Jesus. “Immanuel” God with us. As we live for Him, may others be drawn to the one who came to reveal God to us and is the “way, the truth and the life.” (John 14:6)
Prayer: Thank you Jesus for coming and going through all that you laid aside to be flesh. For coming to die for us and to show us how to live lives as true servants. Help us to be ever mindful of the great gulf that you bridged in becoming flesh. May that word “Immanuel” stimulate us to grow in humility, grace and love. In Jesus' name - Amen
